Random Thoughts ....
I am not Advertising!
Ohkay, you can actually, ironically, they say that a noble profession like law should not be corrupted by advertisements.. *YEAH, I rolled my eyes too when I got to know the reason*, Law and noble, they don't really go hand in hand.
But I feel that the real reason behind this is, so that the lawyers don't end up giving importance to advertising and forget that they really are to help people. The funny thing though is, that a well known lawyer is a well known lawyer, by the word of mouth, and therefore, it becomes really important for us to be at our best, and to do our best with the client. That is the reason why a lawyer would defend a criminal! Because, that is his job. And he has to be true to his client. The conflict of the inner conscience comes later. Yes, lawyers have a moral conscience and they pray to God! But then, they believe in 'Work is Worship'.
It is a known fact that for a young lawyer without a backing in this profession, it is a very long fight to actually have a stable base and to get a substantial income home. *A BIG reason why you would find a lot of lower court lawyers unmarried, especially those who are not from Delhi* *And a BIG reason why my was so averse to me becoming a lawyer, her favourite crack at the profession is, "Who will marry a lawyer?"* Thus, every client that comes your way, even if it is something as small as just making of an Affidavit, it is a big thing to do it. If nothing else, atleast you know that tomorrow if there is some legal work, he may think of you as the first person to come to!
So, I am also a young advocate, *I even have a certificate and an I-card to prove it* and even though I have a law chamber waiting for me, I am a little greedy and I want to do something on my own, it makes me happier and gives me confidence. So, at least, all of you all, if you have anything that has anything to do with my profession, you know how to find me!
But, please, this is not advertising! :)

Only a modest post
So finally a post from my side after a looooong time. May be my last post or last comment was way back in 2003!!.(even the archive disowned it).So the fear of getting ousted from this blog is what forced me to scribble something and mark my presence.
As a matter of fact, the concept of blogging has always eluded me. I have always tried to make sense of blogging but only succeeded partially. ‘I never do stuffs which do not come naturally to me’-this is what I told myself. But now I can trace the reason... When I was in Kolkata and half the college(not exaggerating!) was staying together in Kolkata, I never felt the urge to communicate with my friends via cyber space while in physical space I was sharing rooms with them, and sometimes bed(no pun intended).Albeit few of my best pals were in different places, the large number of new found friendships occupied the void. But now after coming to Bangalore, for few initials days the suddenly created ‘social circle’ void nearly choked me.But I recovered quickly, thanks to the skin-friendly climate and delicious eateries of Bangalore. May be this is how ‘self preservation’ works. As last night I was browsing through Karma’s newly posted pics from his London itineraries and chatted online with Andy in the morning, the memories of good ol’days came rushing back in my mind and the reminiscence of Kolkata days were enough to tickle my funny bones. In Bangalore I have been deprived of this funny moments. I can no longer crack jokes seamlessly here while talking to people, as half of my energy is wasted in deciphering the head gesture of them which looks something between a ‘yes’ n ‘no’:).
Am I facebook illiterate?
I feel energetic today. So back to back posts!!(actually got nuthin to do in my room)
Shanoob wanted to upload some of my photos on facebook but I pleaded him not to becoz facebook scares me. I have never understood the privacy settings(n I do not intend to) of facebook. If somebody uploads something, chances are there that virtually all facebook users will get that update!...and my this belief got firmly established when one of my school friends got update about my commenting on Karma’s snaps last night. How on earth he got that!!...
That’s why I use facebook as little as possible. While navigating on the pages I try to dodge all potential ‘data leaks’ by clicking less and scrolling more. Here are some of the sample 'news feeds' which caught my attention.....
# Shayantan’s comments(always on top)-first few words of his comments invariably are “WTF”,”What the hell” ,”holy s***”,”f***”etc (A one-stop place of slang vocab builder)
#A and B are now friends with C and D who commented on E’s photo(none of ‘em are my frnds:)..)
#only ‘Like’ buttons but no ‘don’t like’ button!!

BUSTED- Myths of Courts!
First some GREAT news, I am an enrolled Advocate.. and now some Bad news, because of the stupid Bar examination that is supposed to happen in December, I am not allowed to practise in the courts as yet. And by practise it means that I cannot appear in front of a judge as an independent practising lawyer! But that does not mean that I can't give advise or not go to the court.
In the language of one of my seniors- I am nothing but glorified intern, who is allowed to wear the band and the gown!
But that also has an upside, I am not responsible for anything. I mean, I do my research and draft the petitions, but am not directly responsible to the clients.
So, yeah, I have been going to the Supreme Court of India for over a month.. and NO, SC IS HUGELY different from any of the courts that you all have seen in the movies. It is actually more of a circus than anything else...!!
My first hand experience about the Courts, well you can see it here!
But there are a couple of more things that you all must have seen in the Televisions or as a matter of fact in the Movies...
Like the statue of justice- There are none. Not in the Supreme Court, not in the High Court nor in any of the Lower courts that I have gone to. There is a plaque that says "Satyamev Jayate" on the back wall of the judges.
Oh, there is a secret door, from where the judges enter, and their attendants are not standing at their heads.. there are the court masters who are writing the orders as dictated by the judge in shorthand!
No, they do not break the tip of the pen any more, they hardly give any binding decisions, most of them are challenged the next day...
Oh and NO witnesses.. and no "Geeta pe haath rakh ke kasam khaao" this happens in the lower courts, but not in the Supreme Court! They just see, the expense- you have done on the lawyer!
The advocates in the Supreme Court ARE EXPENSIVE! Yup, there is a hierarchy.. and not every one who is an advocate can go and argue in the supreme court- BUT, if you are a common person, you can go as a petitioner in person and fight your case!
Yeah.. it is a funny world of Legal eagles.. and trust me- Every day, is a new surprise, and each day new fun...!!
PS: I will write the kind of things that the judges say in the court room.. soon! They are funny!

Happy Birthday- YO Man!!!
So, the Yo- Man is another year older- Any wiser? well, that only he can vouch for, whether or not he has become wiser.
Surprisingly, Mr. Mannu has become much more busier in his stint of teaching the kids english and making me them go abroad than what he was when he was working in his previous office. I have no clue whether he is looking more muscular than the last time I saw him because- It has been like ages since I saw him last. Yeah, we live in the same city and once a week he comes as close as 5 mins away from my house, but alas he is busy.
So here is wishing Mann, a VERY Happy Birthday... May God Bless him with all the more success, more money.. girls.. happiness and true love!
Cheers!!!
