LIFE IN A METRO..

My training is over & I've been allocated kolkata. Was this going to be better this time around in the 'city of joy', well my trips to this city has never been without the ill luck be it bandhs, floods due to torrential rain & this time around there was a massive protest which turned violent leading to a few hours of curfew & flag march by the army.

The worst part was my hotel was very near to where the violent protest took place. I was at that time at Salt Lake Area where my office is. After some confirmation on phone by the Hotel's reception that situation is under control & normal, we(Samik & Shanoob too with me) took a taxi to bring our luggage from the hotel & stay at Ashok's place. I feared the situation to get even worse the next day & moreover my certificates were there in the hotel. On our way to hotel we saw the army doing the flag march, the TV crews all ready to report & broadcast any new incident. Near the Park Circus area we could see around 10 or probably more burned down vechiles.

I was really a bit scared if at all something happens. Shanoob was enjoying a nice little nap during the taxi ride to the hotel. We came back safely to Ashok's place & I really had a sense of relief.That was my first day in Kolkata.

The next three days we searched for a house & finally settled for a comfortable & clean 2 rooms rented house. I must say Salt Lake is a great place. There's a market place and a ground at walking distance from each block. The offices are hardly 10minutes away and you have the 'city center'so near that we go there every evening. City center has been a very costly affair for us,I think three of us have together have bought something or the other from almost most of the garments shop if not all. Another good thing is all the ol' college folks stay nearby. Walking around the Salt Lake area you are bound to bump into a familiar face from college.
